This segment of Lauren's Library, I want to give shout outs to some of my favorite YA novels!
Bloody Jack by L. A. Meyer
Jacky Faber is a girl who is an expert at getting herself into trouble, but she's even better at getting herself out of it. This series is raw, yet hilarious. I love how Jacky, who starts out as a street urchin, is clever enough to continue improving her lot in life. Sure, she gets knocked down ever so often. But no one can keep this pirate goddess from conquering the world!
Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn
I love this book for the delicious court intrigue and the creative approach to magical powers. Whenever there are characters who can manipulate and control the elements, I'm so there for it! Zoe doesn't let anyone dictate how she lives her life, not even royalty. That kind of strength in an MC is what I always have my eye out for.
Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
Before Tamora Pierce, I was a pre-teen only mildly interested in reading, muddling my way through books about horses and dogs. One day, in Barnes and Noble, I saw the following cover and thought "Cool. Horses!"
Then I noticed the second book in the series and thought "Double cool. Wolves!" Little did I know, the Immortals series would instill in me a rabid obsession with reading. I re-read these and all of Pierce's other books every chance I got, sitting in the back of classes, ignoring the teachers, just trying to spend one more minute in the amazing world of Tortall that Tamora created. Her books changed me, and I will forever be grateful to Wild Magic's role in forming the reader I am today.
Hope you give these a chance!
Best,
Lauren
